Cairncake Farm Grain Stores, Moray

Key Info:

Client: Alan Twatt Potato Merchants
Sector: Agriculture
Project: Cairncake Farm Grain Stores
Location: Cummingston, Moray

Project overview

In 2024, Allan Twatt Potato Merchants set about converting an existing cattle court structure into two grain stores. The aim of the project was to enhance storage at their Cummingston site in Moray, Scotland.

Scope of work

KR Group Scotland was tasked by Allan Twatt Potato Merchants to upgrade an existing cattle court at their farm into two grain stores. To do this, our team raised the building’s height with new structural steel columns, and repurposed the existing steel rafters. They also installed new roof and wall cladding, and constructed a new grain store adjacent to the original structure.

Materials

Our team supplied, fabricated, and installed the structural steel for this project. We also supplied and installed juniper green profile sheeting to the exterior, and fibre cement sheeting across the roof. Additionally, we installed rainwater goods, including galvanised steel gutters and UPVC downpipes.

Challenges and highlights

Working on a live farm site, our team maintained the highest standards of quality while carefully minimising disruption, allowing daily operations to continue. Our team also delivered the project within a tight timeframe, ensuring completion ahead of harvest deadlines.

Safety, quality, and compliance

At KR Group Scotland, we understand the demands of working on a live, operational farm—and we bring the same care, attention to detail, and reliability you’d expect from your own team.

We’re fully accredited to UKAS ISO 9001, 14001, 45001 and EN1090 standards, which means every project we deliver meets the highest levels of quality, safety, environmental care, and structural performance. But more than that, we take pride in doing the job right—first time, on time, and with minimal disruption.

From the early design phase through to sourcing materials locally, we plan carefully to ensure everything runs smoothly. We work closely with suppliers to phase deliveries, keeping the site tidy and limiting waste or damage—because we know how important it is to keep the farm running efficiently.

All waste was sorted in line with our Waste Policy, helping to reuse or recycle wherever possible. We also worked with suppliers offering waste collection services, and carefully planned vehicle use to cut down on fuel and emissions—doing our bit for the environment and your land. Behind every job is a strong team. Our ESG Strategy supports pay fairness, mental health awareness (with 20% of staff trained as Mental Health First Aiders), and equal opportunities—because when our team thrives, your project does too.
