Project Overview
In 2021, KR Group secured the steel and cladding packages for the Broomhill Nursery project in Aberdeen, Scotland. Working alongside main contractor Robertson Construction, we contributed to a key educational infrastructure project for the region.
The nursery formed part of Aberdeen Council’s £23 million initiative to expand early years learning across 27 sites. As a result, it plays a vital role in giving children a strong foundation for their future education.
Built in 1895, the original Broomhill School building has now been enhanced by the addition of this purpose-built nursery.
This extension creates a more modern and inclusive learning environment for the local community.
Scope of work
Our team supplied, fabricated, and installed the galvanised structural steel frame for the new nursery. The building is located on the grounds of Broomhill Primary School.
Additionally, we handled a portion of the required cladding work, supporting the project’s overall design and function.
Materials
KR Group procured, fabricated, and installed just under seven tonnes of galvanised structural steel. We assembled the frame using approximately 168 bolts.
For the sloped roof section, we installed 6500 x 1000 x 80 Kingspan cladding panels. These materials provided both structural integrity and a high-quality finish.
Challenges and highlights
Throughout the project, we maintained close coordination with both our client and Robertson Construction.
Thanks to this collaboration, we completed the steel and cladding installation in just one week. This efficiency helped keep the wider project programme on schedule and running smoothly.
Ultimately, we delivered the project on time and within the agreed budget. The finished nursery offers a safe, bright, and modern space—ideal for young children to learn and play.
