Recently, KR Group proudly said farewell to a number of young people who completed placements through our KRedit programme.
Designed to offer meaningful work experience across various departments, KRedit has helped participants build practical skills in construction and engineering. In addition, it has allowed them to grow in confidence and take their next steps—whether into employment, apprenticeships, or further education.
Nathan Clunas
Nathan joined our KRedit programme alongside his studies, keen to explore different areas of the business. He worked part time across the yard, workshops, and office. As a result, he gained a broad skillset and valuable insight into the industry.
He has now completed his placement and is moving on to an apprenticeship with a local civil engineering company.
Reflecting on his experience, Nathan said:
“I’ve got that foundational knowledge now, so I feel a lot more confident going into an apprenticeship because I’ve had that prior experience.”
Reece McWhinnie
Reece took part in a six-month foundation apprenticeship with KR Group in partnership with Mearns Academy. During his placement, he completed three virtual administration projects. As part of this, he worked with Business Director Nicola Fraser and HR Business Partner Karen McAra. As a result, he gained a deeper understanding of real-world projects while continuing his studies.
Despite the workload, he successfully balanced both responsibilities and stayed on track with his education.
Felicity Davies
Felicity, who joined us through a partnership with Ellon Academy, gained experience in our administration and reception team. During her placement, she developed key office skills. For example, she learned how to handle calls and welcome clients. In particular, Felicity played a key role as the first point of contact for visitors.
She has now chosen to continue her education at college. We’re confident the skills she gained through our KRedit programme will support her success moving forward.
Bruce Thain
Bruce is nearing the end of his four-year apprenticeship and plans to stay with KR Group. He began his journey with a one-year specialised welding course at Tullos Training College. After completing the course, he subsequently joined our workshop team full-time. From there, he continued developing his skills under the guidance of Workshop Manager, Mark Morrison.
Our Business Director, Nicola Fraser has worked closely with Bruce throughout and shared:
“Since joining us as an apprentice, Bruce has shown tremendous growth in both his confidence and technical abilities. He’s become a well-respected and trusted member of our workshop team, often taking on key projects with reliability and skill. I’m excited to see him continue with KR Group and look forward to supporting his ongoing development.”

Through the KRedit programme and our ongoing collaboration with DYW (Developing the Young Workforce), KR Group remains committed to supporting young people as they transition from education into the world of work.
