Another fantastic work experience placement has come to an end at KR Group.

Over the past six weeks, Daniel from Lochside Academy joined our workshop teams for one day each week, gaining valuable hands-on experience with steel, sheet metal and the world of engineering and fabrication.

Tell me about yourself and what you’ve been working on at KR Group

“My name is Daniel Baxter and I am 15 years old. I am in 5th year at Lochside Academy and have been doing a 6-week work experience placement at KR Group. I have been coming to KR Group once a week and working between the steel and sheet metal workshops. In my spare time I play football for Westdyke FC.”

Why did you want to do work experience at KR Group?

“I’m not sure what I want to do in the future so I wanted to do some work experience to help me find out what I’d like to do. Being in the workshops gave me a good taster of what it would be like working for KR Group and in construction.”

What have you enjoyed during your work experience?

“I enjoyed learning how to use the machinery especially in the sheet metal workshop as I got to input the drawings and then help with the cutting and folding. It was also good as this was a real project for a client. It felt good to be able to help.”

What’s your biggest take away from the past 6 weeks?

“I would say just to take your time on what your working on and there is no need to rush. The product will turn out better if you spend a bit more time on it and doing your best to make it good.”

How will this experience help you in the future?

“This will help me in the future as I have got a taste of what working in a workshop is like. It has also taught be what the expectations are to work in a professional environment especially compared to school. I have really enjoyed the last 6 weeks.”
