A Bright and Promising Future

Ellon Academy Student, Emma, finishes work placement at KR Group

Emma, a fifth-year student at Ellon Academy, has recently completed her work placement at Newburgh based steel and cladding company, KR Group. Over the academic year, Emma has helped them with various business administration tasks.

“I had previously got an insight to office life at KR Group during a week of virtual learning in fourth year,” explains Emma. “I met the office staff and learned what they do on a day-to-day basis. I chose to come back the following year because everyone was so friendly, and I thought the experience would benefit me and my future.”

The staff at KR Group were eager to welcome Emma back thanks to her impressive attitude. Lauren, KR Group’s Finance Assistant, was assigned as Emma’s mentor to support her in her placement. Lauren is in the final year of her Modern Apprenticeship in Business Administration and was able to offer guidance from that perspective.

“I chose to come back the following year because everyone was so friendly, and I thought the experience would benefit me and my future.”

Emma has enjoyed the varied nature of working with a small team. “I learned about drawing up plans of projects, including what software platforms are used to create them and how the workers use the plans when onsite. I also got to work on planning applications, file invoices and manage spreadsheets.”

She continues, “Thank you to everyone for making me feel so welcome and taking the time to show me what they do day to day. Especially to Lauren, who has kept me busy every week with different tasks. I am looking forward to returning after my exams to continue building on what I’ve learned.”

Emma will be joining the office as a part-time employee over the summer, before starting college in August.

“[Emma] has a very bright and promising future ahead of her.”

Nicola, KR Group’s Business Director, says “Emma approaches every task with a positive mindset. We’ve been really impressed; she has a very bright and promising future ahead of her.”
