A Beam of Light

23-06-22

This is Mark Lamont, fondly known as Jim Beam at KR, but he usually goes by “Jim”.

Today marks an 8 year home straight for Jim, but in reality, he’s been a support to us for much longer than that.

Aged just 18 and 25 and working as Steel Erectors, Kenny and Jim met in 1996. Along with Kenny’s brother Jock, the three young men worked as colleagues at RIM Fabrications at Leshangie, Kintore, under the careful eye of their boss and industry entrepreneur, Roddy McDonald.

In 2003, Kenny and Nicola set up KR Steel and Jim joined them a few years later. In its early days, KR Steel operated from a small flat in the east end of Aberdeen and had a wee team working locally.

After about five years, when KR Steel restructured circa 2011, Jim joined another business to expand his learning before returning in June 2014. He has since helped us evolve and implement advanced health and safety procedures onsite, and two years ago was promoted to FASET Safety Manager.

Out of work, Jim is a keen mountain biker and competes regionally and nationally. He’s also a car enthusiast and enjoys rebuilding motors and machines. The back of his van resembles an Aladdin’s cave with everything you could need for the job, neatly tucked away inside.

To this day, Jim still works closely alongside Jock, who lovingly describes him as “conscientious, hardworking, and a pain in the backside”.

Thank you, Jim, for your support as we’ve grown and evolved as a business over the years. You are one of the OGs, a friend, and very valued member of the team. Happy Anniversary!
