What You’ll Be Doing

As an apprentice, you’ll be right in the action:

  • Developing knowledge and techniques in MIG and flux core welding
  • Learning to read drawings and fabricate steel products using a wide range of tools and equipment
  • Learn to cut and fabricate steel and metal independently
  • Develop knowledge of materials, production processes, quality programmes, raw materials and other techniques

Your day-to-day responsibilities

  • Learn to perform welding operations using various techniques and equipment
  • Inspect welding surfaces and smooth them for best finish
  • Align components to be welded using rulers and clamp pieces for stability
  • Know how to calculate dimensions, and read drawings/specifications
  • Use electrical and manual tools
  • Ensure all standards are maintained
  • Carry out maintenance and repair on existing structures and equipment
