What You’ll Be Doing
As an apprentice, you’ll be right in the action:
- Developing knowledge and techniques in MIG and flux core welding
- Learning to read drawings and fabricate steel products using a wide range of tools and equipment
- Learn to cut and fabricate steel and metal independently
- Develop knowledge of materials, production processes, quality programmes, raw materials and other techniques
Your day-to-day responsibilities
- Learn to perform welding operations using various techniques and equipment
- Inspect welding surfaces and smooth them for best finish
- Align components to be welded using rulers and clamp pieces for stability
- Know how to calculate dimensions, and read drawings/specifications
- Use electrical and manual tools
- Ensure all standards are maintained
- Carry out maintenance and repair on existing structures and equipment
